POKOTABI / Teuchi Soba Chirin
蕎麦ちりん
At Soba Chirin in Koyama, Shinagawa, enjoy small plates like dashi rolled omelet and deep-fried triangle tofu before finishing with Kujo green onion tsuke-seiro, signature mazesoba, or classic chilled soba.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short walk from the bustle of Musashi-Koyama Station, Soba Chirin (蕎麦ちりん) caters both to full soba meals and to the leisurely tradition of pairing drinks with small savory plates before finishing with noodles. The ground floor is centered on counter seats that warmly accommodate solo diners, while the calm, wood-lined second floor offers comfortable table seating.
A satisfying meal here often begins with the diverse selection of small plates. The kitchen offers an unpretentious lineup, from a five-item sampler plate suited for tasting a variety of flavors to classic dashi rolled omelet (dashimaki) and fragrant triangle-cut deep-fried tofu, served either unglazed or splashed with savory dashi soy sauce. Dishes like the green-chili-spiced rolled omelet, house-made boiled dumplings, and salt-grilled chicken thigh pair naturally with glasses of beer, sake, or soba shochu.
The buckwheat noodles, taking center stage, come in an impressive range of styles. Options span from classic chilled seiro soba appreciated for its clean slurp and firm bite to dipping-style tsuke-seiro with deep, flavorful broths featuring duck and Kujo green onions or tender pork, suited equally to a dedicated meal or an evening finale. Chirin's specialty mazesoba, offered in hot and cold versions, is popular for its hearty texture, tossed thoroughly so the noodles latch onto the assorted ingredients. Diners can also customize their bowls with side selections such as assorted tempura, chicken tempura (toriten), or a soft-boiled seasoned egg tempura.
Whether visiting for a straightforward midday lunch or settling in for an evening drink, the venue provides a dining experience shaped around the mood of the visit.
